Nearly 14 million people may be eligible for a Johnson & Johnson booster shot soon

If the US Food and Drug Administration follows recommendations made by its vaccine advisory panel, more than 90% of people vaccinated against Covid-19 with the Johnson & Johnson shot will be eligible for a booster shot right away.

The FDA’s vaccine advisers recommended on Friday that all adults vaccinated with the Johnson & Johnson shot receive a booster shot at least two months after their first dose. The FDA will decide whether to authorize the booster dose, and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s vaccine advisers will then be asked whether to recommend it.

To date, about 15 million people in the United States have received their first J&J shot, according to data from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Nearly 91% of those – about 13.9 million people – received their first shot more than two months ago. Fewer than 1.4 million people have received the J&J vaccine within the past two months, CDC data shows.

Among all vaccinated people in the US, more than 9 million have already received a booster shot. Most – about 7.8 million – were fully vaccinated with the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine, CDC data shows

Vaccine advisers to the US Food and Drug Administration voted unanimously Friday to recommend a booster dose of Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine at least two months after people get the first dose.

The FDA’s Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee voted 19-0 to recommend the extra dose for all recipients of the J&J Janssen vaccine, 18 and older. They asked to simplify the original question being posed by the FDA, which had asked the committee to say whether the data showed that waiting six months or longer after getting the first shot would provide an even stronger immune response.

The FDA will now consider the committee’s advice. Then the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s vaccine advisers will be asked to consider it.

The 18th annual Science and Technology in Society (STS) forum was held live online in early October from a base studio in Kyoto, Japan. Approximately 1,400 global leaders in science and technology, policymaking, business, and media from 125 countries, regions, and international organizations explored opportunities that science and technology present to tackle global issues – specifically, health crises like COVID-19 and climate change.

Thanks to an invitation from the Henry B. Luce Foundation, Roberta Rincon, Ph.D., Associate Director of Research, attended as SWE’s representative. Here are a few highlights from some of the forum sessions.

Hiroshi Komiyama, Chairman of the STS forum, offered opening remarks. He compared knowledge to the spines on a puffer fish, noting that “knowledge is scattered,” and we must find a way to integrate it, break the silos that exist between academia, industry, and the science community.
Breaking Silos in Education

This session’s panelists included professors from universities in the United States, Japan, and Israel, as well as high-level education administrators from Australia, Japan, and the United Kingdom. In keeping with the opening remarks, the presentation focused on how we must break down silos in education across organizations, subjects, and regions. We need to tackle global challenges using a multidisciplinary approach. Joachim Frank, Professor of biochemistry at Columbia University, spoke of the importance of a liberal arts education, noting that some countries are putting too much emphasis in tracking students early in their education. He spoke about how fiction and science are compatible, leading to broader thinking, and he shared his website: FranxFiction.com. Margaret Sheil, Vice-Chancellor and President of Queensland University of Technology, focused on the impact of the pandemic on learning, stating that kids need social interaction, and online learning is much harder to do in K-12 than in college.
Basic Science, Innovation and Policy

This session focused on the shift of the global challenges towards a more green and digital world, creating new requirements for stakeholders. The panelists discussed the impact on the terms, roles, and interfaces between science, innovation, and policy – particularly cross-national collaborations.

Jean-Pierre Bourguignon, Honorary Professor at the Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques in France, asked how different countries with different priorities can really work together to address global challenges? In democracies, for example, politicians are elected, and their time in office is or can be relatively short.

Ara Darzi, Professor of Surgery and Faculty of Medicine at Imperial College London, stated that “necessity is the mother of invention.” Policy coordination within and between countries is needed. COVID showed us examples of how coordination can happen between science, globalization, and policy. It can be done.

Anne Kitson, SVP of The Lancet and Cell Press at Elsevier Ltd. in the United Kingdom, agreed, stating that we have seen extreme speed among scientists during COVID. We can collaborate when there is an incentive to do so. But we also need to incentivize public behavior. With COVID, we required policymakers to influence public behavior and help us successfully combat the pandemic. Another example of where policymakers are a key to success is when carbon taxes are implemented as an incentive to promote change for a cleaner climate.

Tim Hunt, Visiting Researcher at Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology in Japan pressed the need for more politicians who understand science. Thomas Südhof, Professor at Stanford University School of Medicine, noted that a short-term goal is only worthwhile if there are long-term consequences. Politicians and the public need to understand this.

Ara Darzi said that in addition to the great collaborations that occurred during COVID, poor collaborations also took place. One example from a policy perspective is the lack of data sharing. Thomas Südhof expressed concern that we are moving away from international collaborations. China is being cut off, both by choice and by others. Brexit was a sign of the desire towards nationalism. The U.S. is suspicious of international collaboration, with scientists required to get NIH approval before collaborating with international scientists and distrust of those serving on international boards or committees.
Science and Technology to Build a Resilient Society

Panelists discussed the need to build resilience at the community level through a convergence of science, technology, and social sciences, with input from and engagement with civil society. We must ensure that an attractive technical solution to a particular problem does not inadvertently create a challenge for the community we seek to serve.

Helen Clark, the 37th Prime Minister of New Zealand, stated that we need leaders and governments to identify win-win solutions to promote climate change policies. Regardless of the type of government structure or geopolitical divisions that exist, countries need to come together to develop solutions to global problems. Dale Beugin, VP of Research and Analysis at the Canadian Institute for Climate Choices said that it is all about managing uncertainty. We need polices for “safe bets” as well as policies for riskier potential solutions.

Martin Keller, Director of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in the U.S. asked how we can bring everybody along during the energy change. For example, people who work in or with the coal industry need help to transition to greener energy sources and new employment opportunities. Sarah Springman, Rector at ETH Zurich in Switzerland, said that young people need to be educated to work in teams, to think critically. Our biggest problem right now is getting students back in the classroom, helping them to overcome mental health issues and move from a survival mentality to one in which they can help us to solve the global crisis.

Yuya Kajikawa, Professor in the School of Environment and Society at the Tokyo Institute of Technology stated that we also need a more comprehensive view to support leaders. We need different levels of action at the local, regional, and global levels as well as different levels of leaders. Helen Clark noted that we need solidarity funding to address global crises and to help low-income areas of the world.
Collaboration Among Academia, Industries, and Government

The United Nations’ Sustainability Development Goals are a call to action by those countries in a global partnership to combat global challenges. However, these challenges cannot be dealt with in isolation; they interact with one another, sometimes in a conflicting manner. Similarly, these global issues cannot be addressed by any single nation or institution alone.

Francis Collins, Director of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services at NIH stated that past collaborations to tackle global problems like the AIDS epidemic and Ebola helped us to feel comfortable partnering with international scientists to tackle COVID quickly. Working together, you work much faster and simpler to make research impactful – beyond just publications, which only really help the researcher.

Paul Stoffels, Executive VP and Chief Scientific Officer at Johnson & Johnson said that regulators moved quickly to approve industry clinical trials for COVID vaccines. It was a good example of government and industry collaboration. Dervilla Mitchell, Deputy Chair at Arup in the United Kingdom, stated that we need to work together more regularly and not just wait for a crisis. This would allow us to know each other and be prepared to work together during crises. Also, collaborations should not be driven by money, but by purpose and outcomes.

Arthur McDonald, Professor Emeritus in Physics at Queen’s University in Canada believes that the collaborations around COVID will lead to more public trust in science – though he quickly noted that this may be too optimistic. Paul Stoffels then spoke about how fake news costs us a lot of money. In COVID, fake news prevents people from vaccinating or believing in the science. He stated that fake news is front and center, and it must be addressed.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices is scheduled to meet to discuss boosters on Oct. 21.

Vaccine advisers to the US Food and Drug Administration voted to recommend boosters for Moderna and Johnson & Johnson’s Covid-19 vaccines over the past two days.

Here’s what happened: The FDA’s Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee voted on Thursday to recommend booster doses of Moderna’s Covid-19 vaccine after six months for people over 65 and for adults with conditions putting them at risk of severe disease or whose living or work conditions put them at high risk of complications or severe disease.

The committee voted unanimously Friday to recommend booster doses of Johnson & Johnson’s Covid-19 vaccine to everyone over the age of 18 who got a dose at least two months ago. And they discussed National Institutes of Health data on mixing and matching vaccine booster doses, but didn’t vote.

What’s next: The FDA will now make a decision on booster doses for Moderna’s and J&J’s vaccines based on the committee’s input.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices is scheduled to meet to discuss boosters on Oct. 21.

The data isn’t available yet to know whether Covid-19 vaccines will need to be given every year, as influenza vaccines are, National Institutes of Health Director Dr. Francis Collins said Friday.

“Nobody knows. Just keep in mind of course we didn’t know about this virus until 22 months ago. We are learning as we go along and we’re trying to do everything we can to acquire that data,” Collins told MSNBC’s Hallie Jackson.

“But you can’t speed up time unless you got a time machine. In case you do please let me know, because I’d love to have that data, too,” he said.

“There are people who believe that the third dose in a booster situation is actually going to be really effective and really durable, and that might mean with three doses that we have immunization effectiveness for a long time. And there are other people who go, ‘Well, show me the data because maybe that one will start to wane too.’ Bottom line is, we just don’t know.”
Collins said the “good news” is current vaccines are still quite effective.

“I mean, remember where we were a year ago, where we were afraid whether we even end up with one successful vaccine? And now we have vaccines and boosters that are almost 100% effective against hospitalization and death and that’s pretty amazing. So be happy about that part, even though sometimes the data seems a little complicated.”

But we have to question whether this access to tech at such a young age is truly beneficial. And if it isn’t, what are the negative effects of technology on your kids? In this article, we will check those out and provide options to help you create a suitable balance that will benefit your children.
6 Negative Effects of Technology on Children

Children are becoming more tech-savvy at a much younger age to either prepare them for schooling or as a way to occupy their time. Parenting is not an easy feat, and it may be tempting to calm a child down by just handing them a phone/tablet so they can get stuff done. Don’t worry; every parent does it! But this constant preoccupation with technology generates some concerning health, mental, social, and safety issues.

Some of the negative effects of technology on children include diminished attention span, health issues, and poor sleep quality among others. Let’s take a look in closer detail.
1. Shorter Attention Span

Our brains are designed to respond to stimuli, and thanks to technology, we are bombarded by a constant stream of news and videos. Because of this abundance of options, online consumers have grown increasingly shorter attention spans; there’s always something new to get to, something else to watch. To cater to the needs of such an audience, online content has also gotten increasingly shorter.

This always-on, fast-paced switching of content can have an adverse effect on young children who are constantly exposed to it. Between social media, TVs, and the internet, our children’s brains are learning how to switch instantly between different and sometimes unrelated events. Their brains, which are still developing, will get wired to multi-task to such a high degree that they find it difficult to focus on one task or thought.

Pediatrics published a study on the effects of constant television viewing and video gaming on children’s behaviors. It involved over 1,300 children for over a year and with an age range of 6-12 years. With an average screen time of over four hours, teachers of the kids involved reported attention problems in most of them. Another study corroborated these findings and also suggested the effects may be long-lasting.
2. Health Problems

A major side effect of excessive use of technology by children is the resulting health problems it creates. They engage less in physical activities as more sedentary time is spent using a phone, playing video games, or watching TV. This encourages mindless snacking, which ends up causing significant weight gain. Researchers have found a strong link between lack of exercise due to excessive computer and television use to obesity in children.

Other health issues include:

An increase in the chance of tendonitis in the thumb caused by repeated use of the thumb when gaming or typing
Eye Strain due to long hours of staring at bright screens at close distance
Poor sitting posture
Hearing loss because of excessive use of headphones with loud music on
Constant neck pain
Recurring headaches

3. Reduced Sleep Quality

Children now have access to media content at any time of the day because of portable devices like smartphones and tablets. This means they could spend all night responding to texts and messages instead of sleeping. Sleep is required for better physical and mental health, and children require a significant amount of sleep.

A US National Institute of Child Health and Human Development study found that media use before bedtime affected children’s sleep. And a study from JAMA Pediatrics corroborated this and found that children that use media before sleep were more likely to have poor sleep quality. The effect of this is reduced alertness in children, excessive daytime sleepiness, and the onset of several sleeping disorders.
4. Behaviour and Emotional Issues

Technology, especially social media, has provided a trigger for insecurities among children. Children who are easily susceptible to negative influence can easily be overwhelmed by the need to copy the actions of their friends or heroes. This can lead to anxiety or a sense of inadequacy and inferiority when they can’t meet up or do what they watch online. An issue known as FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) develops, which is a toxic blend of anxiety and inadequacy.

The internet provides an avenue for kids to get emotionally harassed, and kids who are always online can be easily targeted. One in three teenagers reported being victims of cyberbullying, a horrific statistic that shows the depth of this problem. In addition, a study published in the SAGE journals found that children with repeated use of social media devices reported more mental health issues. Also, a study in the International Journal of Child Health and Human Development found 30 percent of the 1,500 kids in the study who used the internet for over 3 hours were diagnosed with depression.
5. Weak Social Skills

Constant use of tech devices as a way of interacting can stunt the development of necessary social skills. These social skills are mastered during daily physical interactions, and overuse of tech displaces time spent in social interactions. Social skills like knowing when to take turns in conversations, reading and using facial expressions, appropriate eye contact, and changing your tone based on whom you are speaking to. All these skills require face-to-face engagement to hone them properly.

Also, children with increased excessive technology use normalize bad social behaviors like bullying and rudeness, which is very common online. A study published by BMC Public Health shows a link between screen time and negative social skills in toddlers, especially in interactions with others.
6. Exposure to Explicit Content and Safety Issues

This is the most concerning impact of unsupervised technology use in children. With the amount of explicit material online, children with unchecked technology access are bound to be exposed. Most sites that display this don’t offer any form of age blocks, meaning kids could easily view them. Also, children can easily be manipulated by malicious individuals online into sending explicit images of themselves. These individuals can use your kids as a source for your financial and security information.
What Can You Do?

These are some steps you can take to find the right balance of technology use for your children:
1. Encourage and Facilitate More Outdoor Activities

Children might find it more interesting to play video games or watch TV, but it is crucial that you make sure they are spending adequate time outside. Ensure they partake in more physical activities by encouraging them to play games like hide-and-seek and play catch. The increased physical activity will burn calories, reduce obesity risks, and support muscle development. Besides, this helps them build social skills and relationships with playmates and peers.
2. Regulate Screen Time

Put restrictions on the time your children spend using technological devices. This will reduce the chance of eye strain, neck pain, or other health issues that arise from long screen time. You can teach them to practice the 20-20-20 rule recommended by the American Optometric Association. To use this rule, after every 20 minutes of screen time, take a 20-seconds break to look at something 20 feet away.
3. Use Parental Control Tools

World Wide Technology Raceway – the home of NASCAR, INDYCAR and NHRA in the St. Louis-Metro East region – will host its second and final Run-What-Ya-Brung Saturday of the 2021 season on October 23. The event will feature a $500-to-win competition for electric-powered cars.

Although electric cars have participated in Ranken Technical College presents Midnight Madness fueled by NOS Energy Drink street-legal events in the past, this is the first time in WWTR history an organized race for EVs – with prize money – will be held at the Madison, Illinois, track.

EV owners drag-racing these silent cars is not new. Drag racing legend “Big Daddy” Don Garlits – a man who literally owned WWTR’s victory lane throughout the late 1970s and early 1980s – has been developing battery-powered dragsters for almost a decade and the 89-year-old racer set a world record of 189 miles per hour in 2019.

Also on the October 23 bill is roll racing (drag racing from a rolling start) and the VP Heads-up Series (Streetcar, Stick Shift and Top Gun).

Gates will open at 8 a.m. with racing starting at 9 a.m.

Saturday, October 23 – Run-What-Ya-Brung Saturday featuring electric car drag racing

VP Heads-up classes: Streetcar, Stick Shift and Top Gun only.

8 a.m. – Gates open.

8 a.m. — Tech inspection.

9-11 a.m. — Roll racing.

11 a.m.-5 p.m. – Drag racing.

11:30 a.m. — VP Heads-up classes time trials.

1 p.m. – First round of VP Heads-up classes eliminations.

2:30 p.m. — $500-to-win electric car gambler race.

Science and Technology in Society Forum Annual Meeting

The 18th annual Science and Technology in Society (STS) forum was held live online in early October from a base studio in Kyoto, Japan. Approximately 1,400 global leaders in science and technology, policymaking, business, and media from 125 countries, regions, and international organizations explored opportunities that science and technology present to tackle global issues – specifically, health crises like COVID-19 and climate change.

Thanks to an invitation from the Henry B. Luce Foundation, Roberta Rincon, Ph.D., Associate Director of Research, attended as SWE’s representative. Here are a few highlights from some of the forum sessions.

Hiroshi Komiyama, Chairman of the STS forum, offered opening remarks. He compared knowledge to the spines on a puffer fish, noting that “knowledge is scattered,” and we must find a way to integrate it, break the silos that exist between academia, industry, and the science community.
Breaking Silos in Education

This session’s panelists included professors from universities in the United States, Japan, and Israel, as well as high-level education administrators from Australia, Japan, and the United Kingdom. In keeping with the opening remarks, the presentation focused on how we must break down silos in education across organizations, subjects, and regions. We need to tackle global challenges using a multidisciplinary approach. Joachim Frank, Professor of biochemistry at Columbia University, spoke of the importance of a liberal arts education, noting that some countries are putting too much emphasis in tracking students early in their education. He spoke about how fiction and science are compatible, leading to broader thinking, and he shared his website: FranxFiction.com. Margaret Sheil, Vice-Chancellor and President of Queensland University of Technology, focused on the impact of the pandemic on learning, stating that kids need social interaction, and online learning is much harder to do in K-12 than in college.
Basic Science, Innovation and Policy

This session focused on the shift of the global challenges towards a more green and digital world, creating new requirements for stakeholders. The panelists discussed the impact on the terms, roles, and interfaces between science, innovation, and policy – particularly cross-national collaborations.

Jean-Pierre Bourguignon, Honorary Professor at the Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques in France, asked how different countries with different priorities can really work together to address global challenges? In democracies, for example, politicians are elected, and their time in office is or can be relatively short.

Ara Darzi, Professor of Surgery and Faculty of Medicine at Imperial College London, stated that “necessity is the mother of invention.” Policy coordination within and between countries is needed. COVID showed us examples of how coordination can happen between science, globalization, and policy. It can be done.

Anne Kitson, SVP of The Lancet and Cell Press at Elsevier Ltd. in the United Kingdom, agreed, stating that we have seen extreme speed among scientists during COVID. We can collaborate when there is an incentive to do so. But we also need to incentivize public behavior. With COVID, we required policymakers to influence public behavior and help us successfully combat the pandemic. Another example of where policymakers are a key to success is when carbon taxes are implemented as an incentive to promote change for a cleaner climate.

Tim Hunt, Visiting Researcher at Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology in Japan pressed the need for more politicians who understand science. Thomas Südhof, Professor at Stanford University School of Medicine, noted that a short-term goal is only worthwhile if there are long-term consequences. Politicians and the public need to understand this.

Ara Darzi said that in addition to the great collaborations that occurred during COVID, poor collaborations also took place. One example from a policy perspective is the lack of data sharing. Thomas Südhof expressed concern that we are moving away from international collaborations. China is being cut off, both by choice and by others. Brexit was a sign of the desire towards nationalism. The U.S. is suspicious of international collaboration, with scientists required to get NIH approval before collaborating with international scientists and distrust of those serving on international boards or committees.
Science and Technology to Build a Resilient Society

Panelists discussed the need to build resilience at the community level through a convergence of science, technology, and social sciences, with input from and engagement with civil society. We must ensure that an attractive technical solution to a particular problem does not inadvertently create a challenge for the community we seek to serve.

Helen Clark, the 37th Prime Minister of New Zealand, stated that we need leaders and governments to identify win-win solutions to promote climate change policies. Regardless of the type of government structure or geopolitical divisions that exist, countries need to come together to develop solutions to global problems. Dale Beugin, VP of Research and Analysis at the Canadian Institute for Climate Choices said that it is all about managing uncertainty. We need polices for “safe bets” as well as policies for riskier potential solutions.

Martin Keller, Director of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in the U.S. asked how we can bring everybody along during the energy change. For example, people who work in or with the coal industry need help to transition to greener energy sources and new employment opportunities. Sarah Springman, Rector at ETH Zurich in Switzerland, said that young people need to be educated to work in teams, to think critically. Our biggest problem right now is getting students back in the classroom, helping them to overcome mental health issues and move from a survival mentality to one in which they can help us to solve the global crisis.

Yuya Kajikawa, Professor in the School of Environment and Society at the Tokyo Institute of Technology stated that we also need a more comprehensive view to support leaders. We need different levels of action at the local, regional, and global levels as well as different levels of leaders. Helen Clark noted that we need solidarity funding to address global crises and to help low-income areas of the world.
Collaboration Among Academia, Industries, and Government

The United Nations’ Sustainability Development Goals are a call to action by those countries in a global partnership to combat global challenges. However, these challenges cannot be dealt with in isolation; they interact with one another, sometimes in a conflicting manner. Similarly, these global issues cannot be addressed by any single nation or institution alone.

Francis Collins, Director of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services at NIH stated that past collaborations to tackle global problems like the AIDS epidemic and Ebola helped us to feel comfortable partnering with international scientists to tackle COVID quickly. Working together, you work much faster and simpler to make research impactful – beyond just publications, which only really help the researcher.

Paul Stoffels, Executive VP and Chief Scientific Officer at Johnson & Johnson said that regulators moved quickly to approve industry clinical trials for COVID vaccines. It was a good example of government and industry collaboration. Dervilla Mitchell, Deputy Chair at Arup in the United Kingdom, stated that we need to work together more regularly and not just wait for a crisis. This would allow us to know each other and be prepared to work together during crises. Also, collaborations should not be driven by money, but by purpose and outcomes.

Arthur McDonald, Professor Emeritus in Physics at Queen’s University in Canada believes that the collaborations around COVID will lead to more public trust in science – though he quickly noted that this may be too optimistic. Paul Stoffels then spoke about how fake news costs us a lot of money. In COVID, fake news prevents people from vaccinating or believing in the science. He stated that fake news is front and center, and it must be addressed.

The climate summit is just around the corner, and as increasingly more data and research is being released on the state of our warming world, an increasingly grim picture is being painted. Industries have begun the switchover to operating in more sustainable ways, but the way forward realistically doesn’t lie in today’s technologies but in the innovations made that will help change emissions practices altogether.

Clean technology is a rapidly growing category that has seen an influx of interest and funding; the Biden administration is working to allocate a large amount of government spending in cleantech to help reach the Paris Agreement goals of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

The clean technology sector has enormous growth potential, bringing in $1-2 trillion green infrastructure investments a year, as reported by Goldman Sachs, one of several companies such as Microsoft and Google, that are all allocating funding into clean technology.

The way forward to reduce and ultimately eliminate emissions is through renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, and hydrogen. The ProShares S&P Kensho Cleantech ETF (CTEX) takes a unique approach within cleantech investing; the fund doesn’t invest in the end-users of renewable energy but the companies creating the technologies and products that are bringing about the renewable energy changes.

CTEX is an investment into innovation on the forward edge of the sustainable energy market. It seeks to track the S&P Kensho Cleantech Index, an index that tracks companies that create the technologies and products that will help create clean energy, which includes wind, solar, geothermal, hydrogen, as well as hydroelectric.

The Index includes companies across developed and emerging markets globally that meet certain market cap and liquidity requirements. Companies are categorized as Core if they derive the majority of their business from clean energy technology products or services, with all else falling under Non-Core. Within the two categories, the securities are equal-weighted, and then Core securities are overweighted overall in the Index relative to Non-Core securities.
Companies on the Edge of Clean Technology Innovation

General Electric (GE), while a major electricity distributor, is contained within the fund because of its work with the New Fortress Energy company to transition the Long Ridge Energy Terminal, which currently uses natural gas to supply energy to the Appalachian Basin over to hydrogen energy production, a carbon-free energy alternative. GE is carried at a 3.27% weight.

Major electric vehicle maker Tesla (TSLA) plans to create a “million-mile” battery to revolutionize the U.S. EV industry. The battery would last the lifetime of an electric car, and when combined with Tesla’s plan to create better, more cost-efficient lithium-iron batteries, it would bring the cost of owning an electric vehicle into the same price range as a combustion engine counterpart. Tesla is carried at a 4.77% weight.

Ormat Technologies (ORA) has recently expanded its McGinness Hills geothermal power plant. The power plant supplies electricity to Nevada and southern California. By growing its net capacity, it provides the residents it serves with long-lasting renewable energy options. Ormat is carried at a 3.41% weight.

CTEX carries an expense ratio of 0.58%.
